Advanced Professional Practice in Domestic Abuse

CPCAB- Advanced Professional Practice in Domestic Abuse

Uomini Counselling together with Surrey Learning and Counselling Centre are proudly delivering a Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB), the only awarding body in Europe to specialise in counselling, a Diploma in Advanced Professional Practice in Domestic Abuse (Level 5).

This unique CPCAB accredited training course is for qualified professionals seeking a deeper knowledge in domestic abuse and trauma-informed care.

The accredited advanced course builds on the abilities that qualified professionals have and provide them the specific tools to effectively and professionally engage with all types of domestic abuse in a holistic way.

The course will cover a cornucopia of topics directly related to supporting individuals who are victims of domestic abuse. Among the many relevant topics are:

· intimacy as an antithesis to domestic violence

· current research findings and changing legislation related to domestic abuse

· the role of social constructs in abusive relational dynamics

·  different types of traumas

· professional engagement with domestic abuse perpetrators

· the impact of domestic violence on children

· survivor centred theoretical approaches

· same sex couple domestic abuse

· parent abuse and sibling abuse

· male domestic violence victims

The course will also provide participants with the working knowledge of an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA). IDVAs provide specialist victim-centred emotional and practical support to victims of domestic abuse. IDVAs often act as the victim’s voice in multi-agency risk assessment conferences (MARACs), liaising with police, social services and other service to ensure coordinated support.

IDVA skills are key in supporting victims to reclaim personal control as they navigate the bureaucratic and institutional aspects of their domestic abuse recovery journey. IDVA skills are key in supporting survivors through empathy, safety planning, and resilience-focused practice to help victims with housing, financial, and legal matters.
